Can you drink alcohol while on Saxenda (liraglutide)?

You can drink alcohol while on Saxenda®, though you should consider what effect this could have on your weight loss journey first. Alcohol in moderation is likely safe while taking Saxenda; however, there are other reasons why it might not be a good idea to mix Saxenda and alcohol. Alcohol lowers our inhibitions and provides additional calories which may make it harder to stick to our healthy eating plan and maintain a calorie deficit. Additionally, Saxenda commonly causes gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, heartburn, and diarrhea, which may be worsened with alcohol intake. It is important you discuss your alcohol use with your doctor prior to and while using a Saxenda prescription as your provider may recommend avoiding combining Saxenda alcohol completely based on your medical history and other medications you may be taking.  If you have dietary restrictions, such as a need to avoid gluten, you should also ensure that Saxenda fits within your health plan.
