How often do you take Mounjaro (tirzepatide)?
Mounjaro® is an injectable medication that you take once weekly. Mounjaro is available in six doses. Start at a dose of 2.5 mg once per week for the first month, then increase the weekly dose to 5 mg for your second month, followed by an increase to 7.5 mg in month three, 10 mg in month four, 12.5 mg in month five, and finally up to 15 mg - the highest dose currently available - for the sixth month onward. However, not everyone needs the maximum dose to meet their health goals. As it is FDA-approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, it is recommended to continue to increase each month if not meeting blood sugar goals. However, it may be recommended by your medical provider to further increase the dose even if you are meeting those goals as the medication can also promote additional weight loss, especially at higher doses. It is important to check in with your medical provider with each step up in dose to track your progress and monitor for any side effects.
