How can I ask my doctor for weight loss medication?

The best way to ask your doctor for weight loss medication is to have an open and honest conversation. You can prepare for your visit by writing down important details that you want to share such as any concerns you have about your weight and its impact on your health, your short-term and long-term goals, and previous weight loss efforts. Your clinician will also want to know about your medical history, including any allergies, medications or supplements you take, and whether you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to get pregnant soon.

There are different types of doctors and clinicians who may prescribe weight loss medications to appropriate patients. Doctors who are board-certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM) have had additional training in obesity medicine and passed their certification exam signifying their competency in this area.  All doctors at Form Health are ABOM-certified.
