Wegovy prescription cost: How do you get Wegovy at an affordable price?
Wegovy®'s price can be difficult to afford without insurance coverage; it is expensive out of pocket (over $1000 per month). Check with your insurance company to see if this medication is covered and if a prior authorization will be needed. If Wegovy’s prescription cost is not covered, your Form Health medical provider can help you find an alternative medication. Another option is to discuss this lack of coverage with your benefits manager at your job’s human resources department (or wherever the policy is through) and ask them to request an exception through their plan’s policy or opt in for obesity medication coverage in their company-wide policy.
Some pharmacies, clinics, and websites offer a “compounded” version of Wegovy (or other weight loss medications) as a Wegovy prescription lower cost option, but these are not a recommended alternative. These compounded drugs have not been evaluated by the FDA, so consistency and safety from batch to batch cannot be assured and there have been reported issues of purity. It’s also possible these medications contain other medications that are not FDA-approved or shown to be safe. Learn more here about the safety concerns surrounding compounded weight loss drugs.
