Can you take Ozempic (semaglutide) and phentermine together?
It depends; the decision to take Ozempic® and phentermine together should be based on a discussion between you and your medical provider. It is always important to review medications you are currently taking with your provider and whether there may be adverse drug interactions or side effects when combining medications. Ozempic is an injectable GLP-1 receptor agonist that is FDA-approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, and phentermine is a stimulant appetite suppressant that is FDA-approved for weight loss. Ozempic and phentermine in combination have not been formally studied in any randomized clinical trial at the time of writing; however, there are no foreseen drug-drug interactions between the two medications in terms of their chemical compatibility. Ozempic and phentermine both have the effect of decreasing appetite which can lead to weight loss, and there are of course risks with excessive appetite suppression. Additionally, both Ozempic and phentermine have the side effects of constipation and increased heart rate.
